United States Ambassador To South Korea Attacked

Mark Lippert, the United States Ambassador to South Korea was attacked as he prepared to attend a meeting in Seoul, the capital of South Korea.  The Yonhap news agency in South Korea described an armed man who shouted “No to war training” as he attacked.  Korean television showed the ambassador immediately after the attack with blood on his hands.  He has been taken to a hospital for treatment for non life threatening injuries.


Lippert was the assistant Secretary of Defense for Asian and Pacific Security Affairs from April 2012 to May 2013.  He served as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of Defense until October 2014 when he was appointed to be the Ambassador to South Korea.
