This Day In History 3-11-2015

On March 11, 1997, Paul McCartney of the band The Beatles, was knighted.  The Beatles was the most successful rock band in history.  Queen Elizabeth II felt that McCartney needed recognition for his services to music.  image According to History.com, McCartney joked that after he was knighted Ringo Starr and George Harrison teased him by calling him “Your Holiness”.  McCartney and his wife Linda had four children.  Linda died of cancer in 1998.  George Harrison also died of cancer in 2001.  John Lennon, also a member of the Beatles, was shot and killed. The band had multiple number one hits and was popular all over the world.  Millions of fans attended concerts screaming in adoration and excitement wherever they appeared.  Their music is still popular today, and they remain one of the best known and most iconic bands ever.
